Another San Francisco discovery with a slice of smooth tech house goodness!

Presenting the latest new talent from our home of San Francisco, Eight-Fifteen Recordings is proud to introduce Raoul Kahn with his first release, the tech infused “Go To The Moon”.

No stranger to the San Francisco scene, Raoul has been DJing for the last 15 years, playing a variety of deep, soulful, funky and tech house styles. He has also travelled extensively, playing locations in Ibiza, Barcelona, Moscow, Asia and all over the US.

With “Go To The Moon”, his first release, Raoul provides us with a set of mixes built around a historical speech about lunar exploration. The original mix, co-produced with fellow San Franciscan luminary Chris Lum is an impressive example of deep tech house featuring brooding synth elements and moody pads anchored by a hypnotic bassline.

Also included are Raoul’s alternate interpretations, a Rework with a buzzier bassline and sparser instrumentation and a Deep version which takes a stripped down and minimal approach.

Label head Vincent Kwok lends his hand to the proceedings with his Lunar mix which cleverly blends the melds the tech feel of the original with an afro influenced beat.

Keeping it local, fellow San Franciscan Martin Aquino takes it back to basics by using minimal elements based around a chunky rhythm track.

This project was written as part of the EMC2 music production program in San Francisco.

Another hot collaboration from Random Soul and Vincent Kwok!

San Francisco to Sydney is the second of the two-part series featuring between Australia’s Random Soul and expatriate Vincent Kwok. This second part features a selection of varied mixes of tracks written by the trans-pacific artists.

Kicking off the release is Vincent Kwok’s Brasileiro Mix of Don’t Tell Me It’s Over. Featuring Yogi’s smooth vocals over an energetic Brazillian beat, this is sure to remind you of those warm nights in Rio.
Random Soul’s Deep Wash Mix strips the track down to its elements, featuring Yogi’s vocals over dubby parts punctuated by synth stabs.
Random Soul provides a Jackin’ mix next with Tomorrow, in their inmitable style, with vocal snippets, synth stabs and more, this is most certainly destined to be a future Jackin’ House classic!
Vincent Kwok is next with his interpretation of Tomorrow, with staccato stabs, and vocal snippets, and pure Jackin’ House goodness.
Random Soul are back with the original mix of Don’t Tell Me It’s Over, which is a departure from the usual house style, instead backing the track with a beat and a buzzy bass line that evoke the funky 80s.
Rounding off this release are Random Soul’s Stripped It Mix and Vincent Kwok’s Beat Mix for those occasions when you drive your dancefloor into rhythmic ecstasy!

Love It! – Grant Nelson
Gonna Rock This – Jay-J
Great EP! – Benji Candelario
Spot On! – Johnny Fiasco

From Sydney to San Francisco is the first of a 2-part series featuring the latest collaboration between Australia’s Random Soul and expatriate Vincent Kwok.

To kick off the release, Random Soul’s mix of “Into Your Mind” contains their trademark tight beats with synth stabs and the smooth vocals of Random Soul’s very own Yogi. This is sure to be another classic track to be added to the Random Soul repertoire.
Vincent Kwok’s alternate turns the smooth soulful track into a percussive, tribal dub, with an unrelenting buildup based on a single phrase until the epic breakdown where things take an unexpected sweet turn before returning to its percussive beginnings.
Got To Get Up is the next selection with the Random Soul mix a perfect combination of classy and soulful instrumental stylings accompanying Yogi’s vocoded voice.

With more than a passing nod to his latin roots, the Vincent Kwok’s Fiesta mix takes the smooth vocal and throws it into a wild party with a montuno-influenced piano line accompanied by horn stabs.

Finally, as an added bonus, Random Soul provides us a with a broken beat take on “Into Your Mind” with their bump mix. A funky mix featuring a searing synth solo, this version is perfect for those moments when you want something different!

Grant Nelson “Sick!”
Tedd Patterson “choice cut! love the VK mix and RS mx of got to. perfect for my sets.”
Jevne “Lots of great mixes here! Nice well rounded release! The Fiesta mix and the RS Bump Mix stand out 4 sure!”
CJ Mackintosh “Loving Random Soul Mix of Into Your Mind….Lovely!”
Graeme Park “What a delightfully refreshing tune! Great vocal, cool vibe and quality production. Makes a change from the drab, cliched, stereotypical nonsense that most people are up to these days. I love it!
Matt Caseli “Very nice indeed!!!!! All the mixes are rocking here!”

Respected producer/DJ Vincent Kwok hooks up with New York City’s DJN Project for a moving collaborative song titled Nowhere To Go. The lush music and solid beats provide the foundation for the thought provoking, socially conscious lyrics and vocals of DJN Project’s Rick G who has put his talents to projects with luminaries such as Louie Vega, Kenny Bobien, Arnold Jarvis and Michelle Weeks to name but a few.

Legendary west coast DJ/producer Julius Papp is on board for a deeper, dubbier treatment well-suited for those special late night moments. Italy’s Island Groove provide a remix that adds a Detroit-ish bassline and jazzy sax and key riffs. New Mondo provide an electronic based remix, while the remix from the mysterious LEFT uses only the essential vocal elements on top of a tech-house inspired rhythm and atmospheric synths.

Tony Humphries Lovely song! Def in our sets..

The New Mondo boys (DJ MFR and Vincent Kwok) present their latest collaboration with San Francisco’s very own Morrisson. U Got The Love, which is also featured on Morrisson’s solo Artist CD, is a soulful dance track which has been receiving rave reviews and support from DJ heavyweights such as Grant Nelson, Tony Humphries and Random Soul to name a few.

This package includes the original vocal mix as well as a slamming remix from Richard Earnshaw which twists the track around into a slice of jazzy soul-funk which takes the track to another level.

Also included in the package is a dubby mix from new discovery LEFT. With vocal snippets (and a surprising breakdown), this mix is a deep and dark version with tech elements that will fit deeper tech sets.

Some sample comments
Tony Humphries Nice song and great package of remixes!
Grant Nelson Badness!
Husky (Random Soul) nice Earnshaw mix.. New Mondo Dub is cool too

Ben Sowton top stuff as always from this very solid label
DJ Pope Richards Mix is cool
Graham Sahara cool track. I will be playing this out. Like the earnshaw mixes as well as the Left Dub, which is pretty interesting. Original versions are cool. Overall this is a great package
Miles Maeda A very well put together EP. The New Mondo mix is totally up my alley!
DJ Yogi was hard to decide, really liked the new mondo dub and the left dub, but i think the earnshaw remix just snuck through…. good job all round chaps, sounding great morrisson!!

Deep tech star bvdub is next with his Long Way Home mix, a epic dark tech affair which twists the vocals into a dreamy floaty pad.

Closing the package, the New Mondo boys (Vincent Kwok and DJ MFR) return with their New Mondo-A-Pella, not just an acapella track, this version gives you a chance to savour the gorgeous voice of Nina Lares.

Something for everyone!

Dark Tech Goodness from New Mondo

The New Mondo boys return to their darker side with their release, Express Your Soul. Kicking off with the Dark Tech Mix with its hypnotic arpeggiated line, this mix builds its dark energy with effected piano and synth effects.

Demonstrating their versatility, the Soul Mix sees the boys connecting with their soulful funky roots, replete with funky bass, rhodes and synth lines.

This is followed by the Deep Tech mix, with a fusion of deepness with dark tech.

Finally, but most certainly not least, renowned deep tech artist bvdub presents his Memories of Acid mix. This is a mix that features his signature sound that has been heard on the highly respected Styrax label.
